Phase 1: Service Thinking

    • ASSIGNMENT - Complete the 'Proj-1' with your team as outlined in the Project Handbook. This is due Saturday September 11th at 7am (turn it in 1 or 2 days early so you can enjoy your weekend!).

  • Week 4: Sep 15: Meet with your team (No Class)
    • Develop the "As-Is" business process model with your team, on your own. Send this file (as a PNG image only) to the instructor (nameistim@gmail.com) by Friday of this week. No formal class meeting this week.


  • Week 5: Sep 22: Process Modeling - gateways

  • Week 8: Oct 13: Review of all BPMN related concepts, and mid-term Exam

Phase 3: Improving the Process

  • Week 9: Oct 20: Field Trip (for first 50 minutes of class)
    • ASSIGNMENT for Field Trip - With your group interview a process owner on campus to discover their business process, then email them a copy of the model within 24 hours to see if you think they captured it correctly.
    • Be back in class by 5:20pm.

  • Week 11: Nov 3: BPMS in the large with RunMyProcess
    • Get started with simple RMP exercise

    • ASSIGNMENT (due next class) - Complete the AH-11 assignment.
    • ASSIGNMENT - Have your team leader email me and CC team members for a project update meeting. Make sure you Read throughly the project handbook, and review the two project examples. Bring with you your 'Proj1' 'Proj2' and 'Proj3' milestones. All meetings must be done before noon on Wednesday Nov 10th.

  • Week 12: Nov 10: RunMyProcess continued
    • Debug RMP in class
    • Innovation discussion
    • Extra Credit - AtHome12: This assignment uses a Zoho.com Webservice to read and update an external database.
    • Extra Credit - Install a publicly accessible BPMS (BizAgi Xpress) on an AWS instance and post. Guidelines on how to do this are posted here!. Get started early in case you run into any problems. Write a blog post giving the world any insight you have to the process (or just your experience). (10 points Extra Credit, due in 1 week, November 17th).


Phase 4: Executing the Process

  • Week 13: Nov 17: Guest Speaker: TBA Not in normal classroom!
  • Meet in RCB 821. Please be early to class!
  • Guest Speaker Presentation - Sebastian Reiter, QUT
  • Business Rules Presentation
    • ASSIGNMENT - Finalize group semester project to be emailed before presentations on Week 14.

  • Week 14: Dec 1: Final Presentations - In RCB 7th fl. 'Manners' conference room
    • ASSIGNMENT - As a group deliver your final presentation on this day. Please see the Project Handbook for details. Written reports should be anonymized and emailed to the class in PDF form before class starts. There are a couple of past project Exemplars Here and Here -- Criteria by which presentations will be graded by classmates is here.
    • ASSIGNMENT - The take-home final exam is passed out on this day, and due at NOON on Dec 10th, to be turned in by email to the instructor.
